Well, I worship the Sun, but I don’t pray to it. Wouldn’t want to presume on our friendship. I do pray to Joe Pesci. Why? Because he seems like a guy who can get things done.

All the talk of these being total death traps when I was a kid have made me want one... spent a lot of time on 4-wheelers, they were a blast!

The next few years should be spectacular for imports. R34. RHD NSXs should bring the market back down a bit for those. All the kei roadsters. Turbo FCs... and that’s just Japan.

Yep. The FD will be there soon, too. Also, all those glorious Hondas. The 4th gen Prelude started being eligible last month, and the EG6 SiR’s will be within the next few months. The DC2 Integra Type R starts in December 2020, the 5th gen Prelude in November 2021, the EK9 Civic Type R in 2022, the S2000 in April 2024, and the CL1 Accord Euro-R, which I want to import, in September 2025.

Hah, you’ve got it all mapped out! Truly the glory days of Japanese motoring... I’d love to own an NSX and FD someday; an ITR would be nice but those went above what I thought they were worth years and years ago... maybe imports will bring them back to sane levels. That’s my hope with the NSXs and FDs, too...

Indeed. I found out that EG6s are eligible as of this month, but they’re usually five figures. Here’s a time capsule for about $13k.

4th gen Preludes, by contrast, typically cost less than half that and are just as fast on the track, but they’re subject to luxury tax in Japan due to engine size and width, and have a smaller aftermarket. And there’s the controversial styling...

They really perfected the art of high-revving, low-weight, sharp-steering, perfectly balanced FWD cars in the late 80s/early 90s, didn’t they? I miss that Honda. I still find myself overwhelmingly drawn to the NSX and S2000, myself, though, out of everything they’ve made in my lifetime- the two RWD bastards of the bunch. Next up would be ITR for me. I’d have to think on it to figure out which of the many like-spirited cars I’d want from them— probably one of the mid year Preludes, or even last gen Preludes, I’d have to drive them back to back to know.
Other than that someday it’d just be fun to buy one of their older lightweight FWD chassis and throw in a K20 or B18... every swap has been done and the motors tend to be cheap if you can find the right people, and all their chassis are good enough to race with.
From the ones I’ve driven, at least...

As much as I’d love an ITR, they have a reputation for being thief magnets, and a JDM one would be even more so. The flip side to that is that it’s probably the most capable of all the FWD Hondas. I saw one race an R32 GT-R one-on-one on a Best Motoring segment, and after multiple laps, the GT-R only won by a car length despite having a power and chassis advantage over the ITR. The 4th and 5th gen Preludes, as I can personally attest, are good out of the box, but a bit on the heavy side, the 5th gen in particular. The only thing stopping me from importing a Prelude is that, while I’m currently single and childless, I want something that can potentially baby, and Preludes don’t baby well.
A lightweight Civic hatch with a VTEC engine and a 5- or 6-speed does sound like lots of fun. The more subdued looks of the EG6 and EK4 (the 6th gen SiR) are starting to appeal to me more than the EK9 Type R.

There are a couple of companies converting Quads and Dirt Bikes to Trikes now. That one in the pic was a TRX 450R originally.
They were death traps in their higher displacement years. I’m working on a fairly detailed writeup on 3 wheelers for Oppo. It’s looking long though so it may have to go multi part.
